Original or reprint?
Basically, all paper prints (positives) are allways prints from a negative no matter what time they come.
Without original negative or positive, no high-quality prints can be created.

Why are new prints?
Old original prints or negatives often have irreparable damages such as tears, fading, missing parts, low contrast or exposure errors when these errors can be corrected only with a reprint.
New prints have the advantage that you can get the the optimum of information and extract to restore damaged or incorrect exposures, so as enlarged prints more detailed, and better contrast than the original exposure.
The reprints are not prints but photo chemically produced ones with very high focus and very fine detail.
